How 3 months equals 4ever.

When you count life in months, they seem to go by fast. Three Months. The length of a college semester. How long eggs sit in our frig before we notice how old they are. The length of summer in WI. The time we've enjoyed Malcolm 'round here.


Lately it seems that he recognizes us pretty easily and readily has more and more smiles to share with us. His most interactive time is still the morning but will extend further into the day.

Night times are a little less certain. Some nights are easy and he will simply sleep for 4 or 5 hours. Other nights are a struggle to get him to sleep even though he's tired, and then other times he's awake every other hour. Despite them being zombie-like moments for mom, he's still willing to smile in the middle of the night.



He seems to like napping in the warm weather during the day. But we still manage to get outdoors every opportunity we can to take a neighborhood walk or hang out with cousins in the park. And though Malcolm seems to like the outdoors, he generally has slept on every walk so far. He must find it peaceful.


He's had a few baby milestone's this month. We both witnessed his first laugh. Now, exactly what made him laugh, is debatable. I was giving him little pecks on his neck making loud kissy noises while Paul was loudly crumpling a large bag. We independently did both to see which of the two things made him laugh exactly, but he didn't laugh again at either. So we'll have to be happy with the mysterious cause of the laughter. And whatever the reason, it was just great to hear him laugh.


We also witnessed the roll over. And as one parent told me, that's the beginning of always having to keep an eye on the child on the move. And by the way Malcolm's always kicking his legs, he'll be wanting to use those legs to get around soon.






He'll grab for a few things now. Like hair and hard plastic toys. But he finds that sucking on his fist is still his favorite. He also babbles on and on, and loves a good game of "peek."




Relatively, three months isn't that long, and look how much we can say about him already. But now we know what everyone meant when they would tell us "once baby's here, it will seem like he's been in your life forever."

A few Madison Firsts

Malcolm was able to get out and about town this weekend with our friend, Simanti (from Alabama, but originally from Rhode Island, and in town for the weekend).


Here are a few of the things he did for the first time:


Meet old friends for coffee at Michelangelo's on State St.

Make his way around the square for the Saturday morning farmer's market. Though, not eating any of the delicious food from the market yet, he opted to enjoy the walk with a nap.

Here he also got to "see" the capitol building.

Take in the sites and sounds of the Terrace.







And finally...

GO TO OPH!!!

Here he looks over the menu and tries to decide what type of pancakes to order.

But he found the decision overwhelming (as we all do), so he fell asleep before the food came (this doesn't really happen to anyone else). Don't worry, those cakes didn't go to waste.

The day was great, but now Erin is trying to get a fussy Malcolm to go to sleep. A mom's work is never done. :)

Workouts

Malcolm has learned to lift himself up -- with our help, of course. He really works his abs. He gets lots of praise for it, so he loves to do it.

And Paul loves to work his biceps -- with Malcolm's help, of course.

Road Trip!

Last weekend, we packed up our bags, and the boy, and headed to Minneapolis for a volleyball tournament. It was Malcolm's first trip outside of Wisconsin, but then again, Minnesota isn't really all that different from Wisconsin...

Malcolm traveled really well. He slept for most of the trip to and from, and enjoyed eating at rest stops. We avoided truck stops.

In Minneapolis, we were able to hang out with Paul's sister Sarah, her hubby, Dave, and Malcolm's cousin, Oscar. The cousins got along splendidly, and you can see all the fun on Dave and Sarah's blog (since we didn't take any pictures.)

And, of course, we got to celebrate Paul's first birthday as a dad!
