Malcolm Minute 3: Get on the dance floor

Or at least wiggle around:

He's got moves like his daddy.

One month and then some

Malcolm has already been in our lives for a full month (and a few days). It doesn't really seem like there are days and nights. They all smoosh together and are only divided by diaper changes and feedings, that as of now, know no schedule. We, surprisingly, have been able to keep up with paying bills, hanging out with people (who really just want to hang out with Malcolm -- we know), and occasionally, make it out of the house for a road trip or even a run to the store. Much of this is possible with all the generous help from family and friends.

Malcolm is getting bigger. And with more weight and height, come bigger cries (with tears), bigger diaper fills, and a bigger appetite. Now, compared to early on, he has found his voice and lets it be known. I guess the only way he knows how to be known is to cry. Some cries are fussy, some are demanding and need immediate attention or the volume increases, and other cries are still a mystery to us and maybe to him too.

He can now hold eye contact, and therefore, seems interested in what we say to him. He loves dancing with Daddy and reading time with Mommy. We claim we have seen him smile, but he's pretty reserved with showing them. Guess our type of humor is lost on him yet. But he'll be cracking his own jokes soon enough. Though, we're convinced that there are times that he knows full well that we have just changed his diaper only to fill it again once we get done putting on all his clothes. Jokes on us.

So while much of this month has been a blur, it has been a beautiful blur as we get to know Malcolm and Malcolm gets to know us. That's not to say the month hasn't had its challenges. I can't remember another time in my life when 20 minutes to nap or 5 minutes to shower was so hard to come by despite being in your own home for much if not all of the day. And when you get the chances, they can change the way you feel about the day. We also find it amazing how much we can stare at Malcolm, listening for his squeaks and squawks, watching him breathe, and loving someone we've only just met. And this is how it is day in and day out. And this is why we lose track of the time.

Great Grandparents

Malcolm was able to meet his Great Grandparents Grunze this weekend. They used words like "sweet" and "good looking little guy"to describe him.

Fortunately for them, he saved his peeing-on for Grandma Schlomer and then later on Nonna Donna. But that doesn't burst the bubble of cute that he seems to live.

Guest Bloggers: Laura & Mike "Half of Malcolm’s life."

We were fortunate to spend a week plus with Erin, Paul and our new nephew Malcolm. By the end of our visit, we had officially spent half of his life with him. We love that we can say that.

Malcolm is so cute and snuggly.

He slept through most of our visit, which was hilarious because it was during his sleeps that he showed us all of his different facial expressions.

Based on these facial expressions, we hypothesized what the contents of his dreams may have been. And the content would be limited to his handful of life experiences.

“Mmmmm, milk.”

“Where’d the milk go!?”

His waking times were filled with diaper changes feedings, and a few photo shoots, some successful and some not . It was clear who controlled the schedule.

Despite all of his demands, Erin and Paul are doing a remarkable job with their new little blessing. But truly it is Malcolm who is blessed to have the loving kindness and thoughtfulness of Erin and Paul.

Get by with a little help...

Laura and Mike flew in from Maine a week after Malcolm was born and stayed with us for a week to give us a hand around the house and with Malcolm. They pitched in on diaper changes, burping, calming, cooking, and cleaning. We did pretty well, but I'm amazed at how much one little person can tire out four adults. Though, I don't think any of us minded.

Laura and Mike couldn't get enough of him, and Malcolm misses them this week. And Malcolm's Mum and Da misses the plethora of good meals and the family time...

Great Grandparents

Great Gramma and Grampa Hoerth came for a little visit last weekend. In exchange to hold Malcolm, we got carrot cake. Not sure who got the better end of the deal. So we'll call it a win-win-win.
